requirements for Food Traders

You must have the following completed before the day of the market:

  1. Complete a "Level 2" Food Hygiene Certificate for caterers. You can do this online or via your local Council.
  2. If any food preparation or storage is done away from the stall you need to register with the local Council there, so they can inspect the premises for hygiene.
  3. You don't need to wait for the premises to be inspected unless you're using them for meat or fish.
  4. You will also need to tell Lambeth Council you are running a food business on Brixton Station Road by filling in their on-line form.
  5. You'll need to wait for their response before you can trade. This can take a couple of weeks.

Lambeth Council's ‘A Home Catering Business' and 'Good Hygiene Practice' (pdf files) may be helpful.

For full information see LB Lambeth's Food Safety webpage, or call their Food Safety team on 020 7926 6110.

Please note we have space for hot food traders at the Friday Food Market and General Market only ~ there are no vacancies for hot food traders on Saturdays.
