As part of our one-off markets, we had a children’s market on Saturday 29 June 2013.
It was a chance for children and parents from all different backgrounds to get together and enjoy some good old-fashioned street market culture.
We had workshops and games for kids aged 3 and up. And we had everything from carnival mask-making workshops from the Sunshine International Arts team, to cupcake-decorating workshops from our regular traders, Raffo & Ridgeway.
There was even a chance to plant the edible flowers in our new planter boxes – if you haven’t seen them yet, stop by Beehive Place.
The kids got their faces painted, sang along with Ruby Rhymes and wondered at Magic Simon’s magic, while parents found out about the latest educational projects running in the area. And local businesses boosted their trade as the crowds came flooding in to buy sweet, savoury treats and knick knacks.
A huge thanks goes out to The London Community Foundation who helped fund it.
Also, Brixton Library, Effra Early Years Centre and the Baytree Centre. Brockwell Community Greenhouse, IRMO (Indo-American Refugee and Migrant Organisation) and Sunshine International Arts.
And we want to say a special thanks to everyone who volunteered. We always need people to help us do various jobs around the market. So if you want to volunteer and boost your CV, get in touch .
